Severe attacks of Leveillula duriaei on Phlomis fruticosa in Italy [Apulia]

English. Severe attacks of powdery mildew on Phlomis fruticosa L. in two gardens in the town of Bari (Italy) are reported. The symptoms include: whitish powdery spots on the upper surface of young leaves, which may also present distorsion, chlorotic spots on the upper surface of old ones, corresponding to white yellowish spots on the lower surface, followed by severe yellowing, necrosis and defoliation, particularly on the upper crown. On the basis of the behaviour of the pathogen, the morphology and the size of its conidia, the causal agent of the disease was identified as Leveillula duriaei (Lev.) U. Braun. Some aspects of the biology of the fungus are also discussed
Show more [+] Less [-]Italian. Vengono segnalati gravi attacchi di oidio sul salvione giallo (Phlomis fruticosa L.) in due giardini della citta' di Bari. La malattia si manifesta con macchie biancastre polverulente sulla pagina superiore delle foglie giovani, che possono presentare anche deformazioni del lembo e macchie clorotiche sulla pagina superiore, corrispondenti macchie bianco-giallastre su quella inferiore, delle foglie adulte, cui seguono piu' estesi ingiallimenti, necrosi e defogliazioni, soprattutto a carico della parte alta della chioma. L'agente patogeno, in base al suo comportamento, alla morfologia e alle dimensioni dei suoi conidi, viene identificato come Leveillula duriaei (Lev.) U. Braun.
