A species trial of Eucalyptus was established in Southern India to identify suitable species for the region. E. elata, E. nitens and E. grandis had desirable fibre characteristics and are suitable to be raised as pulpwood plantation. E macarthurii was not ideal for pulping but may be raised as a source of wood for general use and for production of oil
