In the genus Ananas there has been much variation leading to the presence of 5 main cultivars: Cayenne, Queen, Spanish, Pernambuco and Perolera. A survey done in Trinidad and Tobago showed that eight pineapple cultivars are presently grown. Their plant habit, leaf, infloresence and fruit characteristics are described in this paper. Possible uses for the fruit and the degree of pest and disease resistance are also discussed.
