Effects of diet and liveweight on serum cholesterol partition of fattening pigs

On a overall set of 84 Large White gilts, balanced for litters and reared from 35 to 160 kg LW, 7 dietary treatments were compared: (1) no oil, 35 mg/kg Cu, no vitamin E added; (2) to (7) 6% high oleate sunflower oil, 35 or 175 mg/kgCu both combined with either 0, 100 or 200 mg/kg added Vitamin E. No statistically significant effect of the dietary treatments was observed for blood serum trygliceride, total cholesterol and for cholesterol in the lipoprotein fractions (Tab. 1). The comparison of the data obtained at 85 and 140 kg LW is shown in table 2. At the higher live weight the total VLDL and LDL cholesterol content was increased significantly (P0.001). [Su un gruppo complessivo di suini derivanti da 84 scrofe Large White, bilanciati per nidiata e allevati da 35 a 160 kg di PV, sono stati confrontati 7 trattamenti alimentari: (1) niente olio, 35 mg/kg di Cu, nessuna aggiunta di vitamina E; da (2) a (7) 6% olio di girasole ad alta percentuale di acido oleico, 35 o 175 mg/kg di Cu, ambedue combinati con 0, 100 o 200 mg/kg di vitamina E. Non e' stato osservato alcun effetto statisticamente significativo dei trattamenti per i trigliceridi, il colesterolo totale e il colesterolo nelle frazioni lipoproteiche del sangue (Tab. 1). Il confronto dei dati ottenuti a 85 e 140 kg di PV e' presentato in Tabella 2. Al livello piu' elevato di peso vivo il contenuto di colesterolo totale VLDL ed LDL era incrementato significativamente (P0.001). I trigliceridi aumentavano marginalmente (P0.08)]
