Virus-free form of Saaz semi-early red-bine hop has been growing in the Czech Republic for eight years. Virus-free and standard forms were evaluated under common agricultural conditions at four localities in the period 1992 to 1998. In this period investigated virus-free Saaz semi-early red-bine hop has higher yield by 28.1% and higher content of alpha-bitter acids compared to the standard form. Ascending shape of trend function corresponds to gradual increase of yield in the first years of planting. As a result of more intensive growth, virus-free form gives higher yield in the first season by 65.7 and 50% in the second season, compared to the standard form. After this period the yield difference decresased to 20 to 30%. This difference is supposed to be kept in the future. Content of alpha-bitter acids for both forms does not correlate with the age of plants. Up to the present time no reinfection of virus-free form has been determined.
