[Plant growth analysis used as secondary traits in selection for high yield on groundnut]

Groundnut growth and yield can be expressed as the product to solar radiation interception (Qi), conversion efficiency of radiation to total dry matter (Ek) and partitioning efficiency to economic yield (Ep) or harvest index. Groundnut genotypes differ in characters related to Qi, Ek and Ep, and the characters have the possibility to be used as secondary traits in selection for high yield. Extinction coefficient (k) and leaf area index (LAI) are the influential factors in increasing Qi. Variability in leaf size lead to the description of the existence of variability in k value within the genotypes under study. LAI three is the level necessary to attain 90 percent total radiation absorption in groundnut. An increased of LAI exceeding four would be inefficient for increasing the fraction of radiation absorption. Convertion efficiency of radiation to total dry matter (Ek) related to the rate of plant photosynthesis and respiration, inspite of the need study the field, however, the study was still limited. Harvest index can be used as a secondary trait to identify high yield genotypes. There was a positive correlation between pod yield and harvest index. An increased of harvest index by 1 percent caused an increased of dry pod as high as 0.365 g/plant. ICG 1697, ICGV 86844 and ICGV 87161 gave yield more than 3.5 t/ha, and their total dry matter (TDM) were 49.2, 52.5 and 40.7 g/plant, whereas their harvest indexes (HI) were 0.47, 0.46 and 0.55, respectively. Theoretically, improvement of the groundnut pod yield can be attained by using variety which has TDM 52.5 g/plant and HI 0.55. Using HI as secondary selection criteria, five genotypes were selected, i.e., G/C/LM-88-B-25 (HI 0.59), local Irian and local Lombok (HI 0.57), ICGV 87161 and LM/ICGV 87165-B-2-1 (HI 0.55). Two genotypes were selected for their high TDM, namely ICGV 86844 and LM/ICGV 87165-88-B-82

Pertumbuhan dan hasil kacang tanah dapat dinyatakan sebagai produk dari intersepsi radiasi surya (Qi), efisiensi konversi radiasi surya menjadi bobot biologi (Ek) dan efisiensi partisi biji (Ep) atau indeks panen. Terdapat keragaman karakter galur/varietas kacang tanah yang berkaitan dengan Qi, Ek dan Ep dan mempunyai peluang digunakan sebagai karakter sekunder untuk hasil tinggi. Efisiensi konversi radiasi menjadi bobot biologi (Ek) berkaitan dengan laju fotosintesis dan respirasi tanaman, kajian di bidang ini perlu dan belum banyak dilakukan. Koefisien pemadaman radiasi (k) dan indeks luas daun (ild) berperan dalam peningkatan Qi. Keragaman ukuran daun memberikan gambaran akan terdapatnya keragaman nilai k pada galur dan varietas yang diteliti. Tanaman kacang tanah hanya memerlukan ild 3 guna menyerap 90 persen radiasi total. Peningkatan ild di atas 3 tidak efisien untuk meningkatkan fraksi radiasi yang dapat diserap. Indeks panen dapat digunakan sebagai karakter sekunder untuk hasil tinggi. Terdapat korelasi positif antara hasil polong dengan indeks panen. Peningkatan indeks panen sebesar 1 persen dapat meningkatkan hasil sebesar 0,365 g polong kering/tanaman. Tiga galur yang mempunyai hasil polong di atas 3,5 t/ha, yaitu: ICG 1697, ICGV 86844 dan ICGV 87161, masing-masing mempunyai bobot biologi 49,2, 52,5 dan 40,7 g/tanaman dengan indeks panen 0,47, 0,46 dan 0,55. Secara teori hasil kacang tanah masih dapat ditingkatkan dengan membuat varietas berbobot biologi 52,5 g/tanaman dan indeks panen 0,55. Apabila indeks panen digunakan sebagai kriteria sekunder, maka dapat digunakan galur/varietas G/C/LM-88-B-25 (indeks panen 0,59), lokal Irian dan lokal Lombok (indeks panen 0,57), galur ICGV 87161 dan LM/ICGV 87165-B-2-1 (indeks panen 0,55). Sedangkan untuk bobot biologi tinggi dapat digunakan dua galur yaitu ICGV 86844 dan LM/ICGV 87165-88-B-82
