Effect of a cold treatment in different periods of the year on flowering of Alstroemeria

English. A low temperature treatment (8 weeks at 10 deg C) was carried out in different periods of the year on plants of two Alstroemeria cultivars (King Cardinal and Yellow King). The effect on flowering was evaluated. The cold treatments started on 10 April, 15 May, 21 June or 24 July 1996. 1-year plants in 14-liter containers were employed. After cold treatments, plants were grown in a greenhouse by the usual cultivation technique. After one year from start of each cold treatment plants treated from June on showed the highest cut stem production (with regard to both total production and the one recorded between October and March). Such plants bloomed continuously from October 96 to June 97. Not treated plants (control) showed a lower cut stem production than June cold treated plants, with regard to a 12-month period too on Yellow King. On King Cardinal stem grade was not significantly affected, on Yellow King it varied a lot depending on different treatments

E' stata valutata l'influenza di un trattamento a bassa temperatura (preparazione) effettuato in differenti periodi dell'anno sulla fioritura delle piante di due cultivar di Alstroemeria (King Cardinal e Yellow King). La preparazione e' iniziata in data 10 aprile, 15 maggio, 21 giugno o 24 luglio 1996 ed e' stata effettuata per 8 settimane alla temperatura di 10 gradi C. Sono state utilizzate piante di un anno di eta' in contenitori da 14 litri di volume; dopo la preparazione esse sono state coltivate in serra con la tecnica comunemente usata per questa specie. Dopo un anno dall'inizio della preparazione le piante piu' produttive, su ambedue le cultivar, sono risultate quelle della preparazione di giugno, per quanto riguarda gli steli raccolti sia nel periodo ottobre-marzo (produzione extrastagionale), sia nell'intero ciclo colturale. Queste piante hanno mostrato una fioritura continua da ottobre 96 a giugno 97; inoltre, rispetto a piante non preparate (controllo), esse hanno fatto registrare una produzione extrastagionale maggiore e, su Yellow King, anche una maggiore produzione totale. La qualita' degli steli non ha evidenziato variazioni significative su King Cardinal, a differenza che su Yellow King
