The research of xanthan gum production from the carbohydrate fermentation by Xanthomonas campestris have achieved of some optimal conditions of laboratory scale and made a leap to developing pilot plant scale in Indonesia. However, it certainly needs some marketing and trading feasibility views to enter the industrial scale and someday becoming a substitute for the imported product. The objectives of this study are to examine the marketing and trading situation of thickener and xanthan gum for feed industry and also to examine the potential market and forecasted demand of xanthan gum in the future in Indonesia. The result showed that xanthan gum has a wide range application in food industries such as tomato and chili sauce, yoghurt, dressing, ice cream, and other food packaged. Xanthan gum is still a new product which has not penetrated the thickener market very well. On the other hand the physico-chemical characteristics and the economical benefit of xanthan gum will make a good market development in the future
