Effects of CO2 enrichment on gaseous exchanges and cut flower production of greenhouse rose [Campania]

English. A research was carried out on the effects of CO2 enrichment on gaseous exchanges and yield of rose plants cv. Dallas grafted into Rosa indica major, grown under plastic greenhouses without and with CO2 enrichment from October until March. CO2 enrichment increased yield of cut roses by 30%, stem lenght by 16% and area of stem leaves by 20%. Rose plants responded to CO2 enrichment with a decrease of flower bud abortion. CO2 enrichment increased the net photosynthetic rate of rose leaves (22.7 micronmol CO2 m*[-2)s*[-1) vs. 12.6 of no CO2 plants). The response model of photosynthisis to CO2 was asymptotic with a plateau to about 600 vpm. CO2 concentration did not affect the transpiration rate, as consequence WUE followed the same trend of photosynthesis. Stomatal conductance was affected by air Vapour Pressure Deficit (r=0.8447) and both net photosynthesis rate and transpiration rate showed a 5% decrease at stomatal conductance of 1.5 mol m*[-2)s*[-1), corresponding to VPD of 1 kPa. At this value of VPD, in greenhouse a Relative Humidity over 55% (at air temperature of 20 deg C) and over 75% (at 30 deg C) has to be maintained in order to avoid a stomatal closure, with negative consequences on gaseous exchanges
Show more [+] Less [-]Italian. La ricerca e' stata condotta per determinare la risposta fisiologica e produttiva di rosa da fiore reciso cv. Dallas alla concimazione carbonica in serra. Le piante di rosa hanno risposto all'arricchimento di CO2 con un incremento dell'intensita' di fotosintesi netta dell'80% fino a valori della CO2 atmosferica di 600 vpm. Gli scambi gassosi nella rosa sono risultati particolarmente sensibili alle condizioni igrometriche all'interno della serra attraverso una sensibilita' della risposta stomatica. La concimazione carbonica ha aumentato la produzione di fiori del 30% (+29 fiori m*[-2), circa 5 fiori a pianta) ed ha determinato una piu' favorevole distribuzione in categorie commerciali degli steli fiorali, con 15 rose extra e 14 rose di prima categoria in piu' rispetto al testimone, una riduzione degli steli ciechi e/o malformati ed un generale miglioramento della qualita' in termini soprattutto di lunghezza dello stelo (+14%) e di area fogliare per stelo (+20%)
