In the past five years, the Portuguese domestic market for animal products has gone through some adjustments as a result of the application of the Common Agricultural Policy and the Uruguay Round negotiations. Nevertheless, those changes were also based on considering future EU enlargement to Eastern European countries and associations with Mediterranean non-community countries.
