An antigen - ELISA technique for the diagnosis of trypanosomiasis in Ongole-crossed cattle

An Antigen-ELISA (Ag-ELISA) technique using monoclonal antibody (TE-MABs) specific to Trypanosoma evansi from the Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (CTVM) was compared to microhaematocrit centrifugation technique (MHCT) and mouse inoculation test (MI) for the diagnosis of trypanosomiasis or surra in Ongole crossed cattle. The sensitivity of Ag-ELISA technique was 80.8 percent, whereas MHCT and MI were 38.5 percent and 82.6 percent respectively. It was concluded that Ag-ELISA technique which is being developed can be used for the diagnosis of T. evansi. However, the specificity of Ag-ELISA needs to be further evaluated

Uji Antigen-ELISA (Ag-ELISA) untuk mendiagnosis tripanosomiasis atau surra dengan menggunakan antibodi monoklonal (TE-MABs) spesifik terhadap Trypanosoma evansi buatan Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (CTVM) telah dilakukan pada sampel darah yang diambil dari 4 ekor sapi Peranakan Ongole (PO) yang telah diinfeksi dengan T. evansi. Hasil uji Ag-ELISA ini kemudian dibandingkan dengan uji microhaematocrit centrifugation technique (MHCT) dan uji inokulasi pada mencit (mouse inoculation test, MI). Sensitivitas uji Ag-ELISA, MHCT dan MI masing-masing adalah 80,8 persen, 38,5 persen dan 82,7 persen. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa uji Ag-ELISA yang sedang dikembangkan memberi sensitivitas yang tidak berbeda dengan MI, tetapi lebih tinggi daripada MHCT. Namun, spesifitas Ag-ELISA tersebut masih perlu dievaluasi lebih lanjut
