Experimental observations of alluvial bed morphology in curved channels

The present paper deals with some experimental runs performed in a curved channel that was built in the external hydraulic models area of the Civil Engineering Departament of Florence University. The experimental apparatus has the major advantage to be a quite large scale model of some natural curved channel, its length being of the order of 30 m. Total discharge, longitudinal velocity and bottom elevation were measured in a quite large number of cross-sections. The 6 experimental runs cover a range of Froude number between 0.2 and 0.4, a range of the width to depth ratio between 5 and 17, and typical mean values of Shields mobility parameter between 0.1 and 0.2. The paper is principally devoted to offer a complete picture of bottom topography after a certain time of flow of constant discharge, in order to offer a complete database for direct comparison with mathematical models results
