The passage of amino acids through the rumen epithelium in lamb and adult sheep in vitro

Passage of six amino acids through the rumen epithelium of lamb and adult sheep was studied in the mucoso-serous direction in vitro. Three concentrations of amino acids were used: 30,000; 3,000 and 300 micromol/l. On the mucous side of rumen at 300 micromol/l concentration after 60 minute incubation there was found a significantly lower concentration in glutamic acid in lambs than in adult sheep. Concentration of arginine was significantly lower in lamb at all three used concentrations on the serous side of rumen. Concentration of glutamic acid was significantly lower in lambs against adult sheep at 30,000 and 3,000 micromol/l concentration and non measurable at 300 micromol/l concentration on the serous side of the rumen. On the mucous side of the rumen after 60-minute incubation there was found at 3,000 and 300 micromol/l concentration a significantly lower concentration of leucine in lambs than in adult sheep. Concentrations of glycine, alanine and leucine were significantly higher at 30,000 and 3,000 micromol/l concentrations in lambs than in adult sheep on the serous side of rumen. Higher concentration of leucine was found at 300 micromol/l concentration in lambs than in adult sheep.
