Prevalence of endoparasitic infections in swine herds and anthelminthic efficacy of flubendazol

Investigations involved 687 feaceal samplas. Positive sampls were examined by the McMaster method with a sensitivity of 50 EPG. The following prevalences were established: Ascaris suum 5.7 - 40 %, Trichuris suis 1.3. - 15.4 %, Oesophagostomum 6.8 percent, Strongyloides 2.6 %, Giardia 10.5 - 38.5 %, Isospora suis 7.5 - 33.5 %, Eimeria 3.9 - 20 %, Balantidium coli 6.7 - 28 %. Treatment with flubendazol (30 ppm in feed for 5 days, 15 ppm for 10 days, or 19 ppm for 8 days) resulted in a decrease of condemned livers from 15.8 to 9.46 % and from 9.46 to 3.64 % in thc first and the second years, respectively. Meat inspection (finding on liver "milk spots") is an effective tool for tests of efficacy of anthelminthic treatment.
