The study presents the results for 214 samples of grains and mixed meals produced in the short period of so-called "wet harvest 96" and 130 samples evaluated after 9-11 months of storage. The ochratoxin A (OA) content was determined in 109 samples using the ELISA method on RIDA-SCREEN R test set (NOACK). Almost a year long storage of cereals on farms of North-east Poland caused a multifold increase of fungi growth and OA content compared to the short period following the harvest. In this stage only 58 % of cereal samples met the European Union (EU) standards for OA content (up to 5 microg/kg). Mixed meals for swine produced after almost a year long storage contained from 7,98 microg OA/kg at low mold contamination (below 9,9x1000 colony forming units (CFU)/g to 23,04 microg/kg (P0.05) at the high contamination (ower 100,000 CFU/g). As little as 20.6 % of mixed meals met the EU standards.
