HaeII and MspI polymorphism of growth hormone gene in pigs and its association with production traits

Genotypes of porcine growth hormone gene (GH) were analysed with PCR-RFLP technique in 266 castrated F2 males obtained from crossing F1 (Zlotnicka Spotted boars x Polish Large White sows) with F1 (ZS x PLW). Two restriction endonucleases, HaeII and MspI, were used in order to identify the polymorphism of GH gene. The mating programme according to which generation F2 was obtained aimed at excluding the birth of RYR1T RYR1T animals. Differences between CC and CT (RYR1 genotype) porkers in the carcass and growth rate traits appeared to be insignificant. The HaeII and MspI genotypes as well as HaeII-MspI haplotypes differed significantly for lean meat content and several traits related to carcass fatness. We did not find any differences in growth rate traits between the pigs differing in GH genotypes.
