Extract from the lichen Nephroma arcticum reduces wood decay
1998
Land, C.J. | Lundstroem, H.
Increasing concerns over the environmental impact (toxicity) of conventional wood preservatives have provided an impetus to look for alternatives. Of particular interest is the field of natural products. In an earlier work it was shown that the growth of various yeast-, mould-, blue stain- and rot fungi were reduced or inhibited by extracts from the lichen Nephroma arcticum. Here the mini-block testing method on agar, where the wood test specimens are impregnated with the actual substances of extracts and exposed to one or more rot fungi, is used.
