Sixteen dairy cows received in the first sixty days of lactation the basic diet and the basal concentrate mixture. Subsequently either heat-treated rapeseed cakes (HRC) or soybean meal (SBM) were included in the concentrate mixture at the amount of 35 %, and in either case eight dairy cows were fed by turns with both experimental diets within the 60th to 90th, 90th to 120th, and 120th to 150th day of lactation. Milk yield and milk protein yield were not influenced by the feeding of HRC or SBM (P0.05). However, inclusion of HRC in the production mixture decreased milk fat yield (0.83 and 0.93 kg/day, P0.05), milk fat content (39 and 43 g/kg of milk, P0.01), content of total milk protein (34 and 36 g/kg of milk, P0.01), and casein content (2.6 and 2.8 g/kg of milk, respectively, P0.01) in comparison with SBM.
