Occurrence of toxin producing fungi in the phyllosphere of cultivated plants in Cracow region

The study was focused on the occurrence of toxin producing fungi and phytotoxicity of their metabolites. The number of fungal isolates and the presence of dominant species depended on the dates of sample collection and plant species. In some cases, the number of toxin producing species of fungi in the phyllosphere reached 50 percent. Phytotoxicity of their metabolites ranged from 30-100 percent. The most frequent toxin producing fungi were: Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus flavus, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Fusarium graminearum, Penicillium citreoviride, P. notatum, P. variabile and Trichothecium roseum. The strongest phytotoxicity on green pea and wheat seeds was found in the cultures of Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium citrinum, P. rubrum and Trichothecium roseum
