Some problems of the Austrian agriculture connected with its adaptation to common agricultural policy of the European Union were discussed. The necessities of undertaking definite activities for both, immediate and future benefits were pointed out. The emphasis was put on non-agricultural utilization of rural areas as well as on alternative agriculture, agrotourism, recreation etc. Shaping of the environment and infrastructure to make them suitable for such activities is of great importance
