Preliminary observations on the arthropod fauna of transgenic corn fields [Zea mays L. - Lombardy - Veneto]

English. The surveys were carried out, during 1996-97, in 4 farms located in areas of high corn agriculture of Lombardy and Veneto. On all farms two lots of 10 ha each were observed, sown one with transgenic plants and the other with normal plants. Pheromone traps to follow Noctuidae moths, pit-fall traps for the control of Coleoptera Carabidae, aspirations with a motorised blower to capture the fauna that lives on the corn plants, placing special attention on leaf hoppers, spiders, Coleoptera Alticinae and Coccinellidae and Hymenoptera parasitoids, Malaise traps to evaluate the diurnal entomofauna were utilized. The collected data were subjected to statistical elaboration using the Mann - Whitney U - test. In no case significant differences attributable to the effect of the presence of transgenic plants were found. On the basis of the results, it is important to continue the research on the same fields to verify possible modifications

Nel biennio 1996-97 sono state condotte indagini in 4 localita' della Lombardia e del Veneto a vocazione maidicola, confrontando in ogni situazione due appezzamenti di 10 ha ciascuno, uno seminato con piante transgeniche, il secondo con piante normali. Sono stati presi in considerazione Lepidotteri Nottuidi, con cattura degli adulti con trappole a feromone; coleotteri caraibidi, raccolti con trappole a caduta e l'artropodofauna vivente sul mais, in particolare ragni, rincoti cicadellidi, coleotteri alticini e coccinellidi, imenotteri parassitoidi, prelevati con aspiratore tipo Blower-vac; l'entomofauna attiva durante il giorno nelle colture e' stata monitorata con l'impiego di trappole Malaise. I dati dei campionamenti ritenuti significativi sia ecologicamente, sia dal punto di vista statistico, sono stati sottoposti ad elaborazione. In nessun caso sono state osservate differenze imputabili all'effetto della presenza di piante transgeniche. Si ritiene comunque importante proseguire le indagini sugli stessi appezzamenti nei prossimi anni, per verificare eventuali variazioni
