1998
Chudoba, K. (Akademia Rolnicza, Wroclaw (Poland). Katedra Hodowli Owiec i Zwierzat Futerkowych) | Dobicki, A.
Based on observations made in the mixed herd of cows of Charolaise and Red-and-White breeds kept on pasture, tree of animals' hierarchy was established. Software "Herd hierarchy for Windows" by Chudoba (1997) was used to convert empirical data into graphical presentation. There were 3 categories of animals on pasture: cows with calves, single cows and heifers. Two values: position of the animal in the herd during migration and variability of animal's position were evaluated. Distinct groups of animals entering new paddock were observed: A - elite (10 percent of population), B - dominant animals (25 percent), C - subordinate cows (27 percent) and D - followers (29 percent) and marginal subgroup at the far end the herd (8 percent)
