Growth of microorganisms and their activity in soils amended with compost

Compost made from tobacco dust with different percentage of bark and straw as well as non-composted tobacco dust were the investigation material. Studies were carried out in model laboratory experiments set on to soil types. Composts and tobacco dust were added at concentration of 1 percent. Studies showed the increase of total number of bacteria and actinomyces in soils amended with both composts and non-composted tobacco waste. These organisms population increase was accompanied by stimulation of dehydrogenase activity. It was observed that introduction of composts into sandy and loamy soils positively affected the nitrate nitrogen content with slight changes of ammonium form level
