Influence of the presence of mite (Varroa jacobsoni) on bee aggresion against queens stored in queen banks

The queens were examined for injuries after 2 and 7 days of storage. After the first 2 days of storage in bee colony it was found that varroa is a significant stimulation of queen injuries. In bee colony infested with varroa, after 2 days as well as after 7 days of storage, greater number of injured queens and greater number of handicapping injured queens were found. The mortality of queens in colonies with and without varroa was 16 percent, and 10 percent respectively. It was demonstrated that bees are injuring significantly more queens in plastic cages with rifts than in wood cages with one gauze wall. The control of the parasite with application of Apistan or Klartan in queenright the bee colony decreases the injuries
