Field trials on heavy soil at Gornji Slaveci and on light soil at Ivanovci were conducted to evaluate herbage production of summergrasses over the 1990-1993 period. The highest annual dry matter (DM) yield was averaged by orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) cv. Kopa 16.2t/ha on heavy soil and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.) cv. Tetraflorum 8.4t/ha on light soil. Compering above mentioned grasses, CP content was the highest within Italian ryegrass on both soil - 12.6 and 9.3% in DM while crude fiber (CF) content was the highest within orchardgrass on heavy soil 27.3% in DM. Herbage yield of meadow fescue (Festuca pratensis L.) cv. Jabeljska averaged 5.9t DM/ha on the lighter soil and 13.5t DM/ha on the heavier soil. And their DM contained 12.6% CP and 24.8% CF on the heavier soil vs. 11.9% CP and 23.7% CF on the lighter soil.
