The Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) diagnostic protocol was capable of specifically detecting superficial infections of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in periderm tissue of artificially-inoculated yam tubers, but not the deep-seated natural infection in tuber meristem tissue and, thus, may be used to determine if 'deadskin' is always associated with this pathogen.
