Metal carboxylates are considered as environment friendly wood preservatives and are less toxic for humans. They have good fungicidal properties and are fixed into wood even one day after impregnation. They are soluble in white spirit as well as in aqueous ammonia solutions and do not increase flammability of impregnated wood. However, there are only few data on their insecticidal properties. Therefore, we studied insecticidal activity of copper, zinc and iron naphthenate, copper octanoate and copper 2-ethylhexanoate solutions with 2 w/w % concentration of metal. The tests were performed according to European and adopted Slovenian standards SIST EN 117 and SIST EN 46 with Reticulitermes lucifugus and Hylotrupes bajulus, respectively. The results showed that the tested metal carboxylates are effective termiticides and insecticides.
