Reproductive and productive performance of young female pigs slaughtered after their first litter

The productive and reproductive performances of young female pigs destined for slaughter after early weaning of their first litter were investigated using two treatment groups of 13 hybrid gilts. The groups were distinguished into "early" and "late" by age at introduction of male (10 gilts at 158 d and 3 at 196 d). The gilts of these treatment groups were inseminated at puberal heat (about 200 days of age) and suckled for 15 d. Two control subgroups of gilts (3 "early" and 3 "late") were conventionally fattened and slaughtered at 111 days. There were no significant differences in either the number or weight of piglets born in the treatment groups. The productive performances of the inseminated gilts were significantly worse than those of control gilts, but there were no differences for the food conversion efficiency and the growth rate between the final weight of control and the farrowing weight of treatment groups

Sono state indagate le performance produttive e riprodutive di 13 femmine prese all'ingrasso e stimolate con il verro, inseminate alla puberta' e macellate dopo una lattazione breve (15 d) ed un corto periodo di asciutta (trattamento). Tale gruppo era formato da 10 soggetti precoci (158 giorni di eta') e 3 tardivi (196 d, ma tutti hanno mostrato la puberta' a circa 200 giorni di eta'. Il gruppo di controllo e' stato formato da 3 scrofette precoci e 3 tardive macellate dopo 111 giorni di ingrasso. Non vi erano differenze significative sia nel numero, sia nel peso dei suinetti alla nascita, mentre il peso differiva significativamente allo svezzamento. L'indice di conversione e l'accrescimento delle scrofette inseminate differivano significativamente (P0.01) da quelli delle scrofette regolarmente ingrassate, ma tali differenze non erano evidenti se si consideravano il peso e la crescita delle trattate subito dopo il parto
