The response of native Mediterranean species with ornamental value to different environmental conditions and mechanical treatment
1998
Costinceanu, V.
Twelve native species from the Mediterranean area Argyranthemum coronopifolium, A. maderense, Centranthous ruber, Cistus monspeliensis, Ebenus cretica, Euphorbia characias, Helichrysum stoechas barrelieri, Limonium sinense, Lotus creticus creticus, L. c. cytisoides, Spartium junceum and Vitex agnus castus, which had not been taken into consideration as possible valuable crops, were investigated under the terms of: required time from propagation to commercialization, quality and optimal growth environment. The best environment for growth, especially during the winter months was the unheated plastic house. Vitex agnus castus was the only species which recorded low differences in its growth parameters between environments. The best bloom parameters flowering period, productivity and earliness were obtained in the greenhouse for all species, except Lotus creticus cytisoides.
