Evaluation of the reproductive performance of crossbred gilts PL X PLW introduced to a basic herd on a "Bisprol" farm

The reproductive performance and rearing results of crossbred sows PL X PLW introduced in 1990 to a herd were evaluated in the experiment. The studies were carried out for 2 years, on an industrial farm. A marked improvement in the number of piglets born alive in a litter was observed in the 3rd and 4th reproduction cycle of sows. The number of piglets born in the 1st and 2nd litter was 8.30-8.43 head, statistical differences were noted in this trait. Primiparous produced lighter piglets (1.3 kg) than multiparous (1.5 kg). At the end of 4th reproduction cycle, about 58 percent of sows were culled, usually because of their poor health state
