DEA models for measuring environmental performance: the case of agricultural pollution in Romania
1996
Toma, L.
The level of pollution in some Romanian agricultural areas exceeds the maximum allowable limits for many pollutants resulting in harmful impacts on the cultivation of various crops and human health. In this study, we use two DEA models, the undesirable output-orientated model, UO and the normalised undesirable output-orientated model, NUO, to rank these areas from the environmental point of view by comparing each of them with a frontier based on observations, which is therefore a best practice frontier. The correspondence between the two DEA models estimated in our study proves that there are more differences between scores than between rankings obtained from the two models.
