English. [The power of sire design applied to backcross populations for QTL mapping was calculated by algebraic approximation and simulation of populations. The results show that, in spite of a systematic overestimation of power, algebraic approximation allows a correct classification of protocols on the basis of family number for a given experiment size. Furthermore, the simulation results show that, in the conditions hypothesised in the study, at least 2,000 backcross individuals are required to detect a QTL of 0.75 phenotypic standard deviation with a power close to the threshold of 0.90]

La potenza di un sire design applicato a popolazioni backcross per l'individuazione di QTL e' stata calcolata attraverso un'approssimazione algebrica e simulando le popolazioni. I risultati mostrano che, pur sovrastimando sistematicamente la potenza, l'approssimazione algebrica consente di classificare correttamente i protocolli sulla base del numero di famiglie quando la taglia totale dell'esperimento e' data. I risultati delle simulazioni mostrano, inoltre, che, nelle condizioni ipotizzate nello studio, occorrono almeno 2.000 individui backcross per individuare un QTL con un effetto di 0,75 deviazioni standard fenotipiche con una potenza prossima alla soglia dello 0,90
