Estimation of the thyroid hormone serum concentration in gilts fed with diet of different fat and carbohydrate content

The study was performed on 19 crossbred female gilts (wbp x pbz). The animals were divided into three experimental groups. The control group received standard gilt meal (K), the carbohydrate group - diet with high level of carbohydrates (W) and the fat group - diet with high level of fats (T). The concentration of thyroid hormones in the blood serum was determined by means of radioimmunological tests. It was concluted that the differentiation of energy sources (fats, carbohydrates) did not affect significantly triiodothyronine and thyroxine levels. Only small fluctuations of T3 and T4 decreasing in the fat group and rising in the carbohydrate group, were observed
