Evaluation of susceptibility of rose cultivars and species to powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca pannosa var. rosae)

Susceptibility of 146 rose cultivars and species grown in field, to Sphaerotheca pannosa var. rosae was evaluated. The following cultivars were immune Sky Violet, Montana, Pussta, Degenhardt and Fruhlingsduft, Handel, Rosa rugosa Hansa, Heidekonigin, Lichtkonigin Lucia, R. rugosa Pink Grootendorst, R. nitida, R. glauca (park and climbing). Among tested roses 11 cultivars were very resistant, 62 resistant, 45 little resistant and 16 susceptible. Degree of infection during growth season changed and the highest started from July. The best time to evaluate roses susceptibility to S. pannosa var. rosae was the end of August or the beginning of September
