Characterisation of giant fibres in skeletal muscles of rabbit. Effect of type of muscle - diet - age and sire strain

[Aiming at studying the frequency of appearance and the morphological and histoenzymatic characterisation of giant fibres (GF) and the involved variation factors, in three experiments the effects of muscle type (exp.1), age and feeding restriction (exp. 2), genetic type, energetic concentration and slaughtering age with the same body weight (exp. 3) were considered. In all muscles GF were classified in the three fibre types alphaW, alphaR and betaR, even if normally these muscles do not have all the 3 fibre types. The effect of muscle type on frequency of appearance of GF resulted significant. The frequency of GF was reduced by age, while was increased by use of high energy content diets and in more precocious genetic types. Allo scopo di studiare la frequenza di comparsa e la caratterizzazione istoenzimatica e morfologica delle fibre giganti (GF) e i fattori di variazione implicati, in 3 ricerche vennero considerati gli effetti del tipo di muscolo (esp. 1), dell'eta' e della restrizione alimentare (esp. 2), del tipo genetico, della concentrazione energetica della dieta e dell'eta' di macellazione a parita' di peso (esp. 3). In tutti i muscoli le GF risultarono classificate nei 3 tipi di fibre alfaW, alfaR e betaR, anche se tali tipi non sono presenti nelle fibre normali che compongono il dato muscolo. L'effetto del tipo di muscolo sulla frequenza di comparsa delle GF risulto' significativo. La frequenza delle GF si ridusse con l'eta', mentre aumento' con l'impiego di diete ad elevato contenuto energetico e nei tipi genetici piu' precoci. Gli animali con GF fecero osservare un significativo aumento della percentuale e delle dimensioni delle fibre betaR, nonche' un aumento del pH muscolare
