Chemically modified solid wood. Pt.2: Resistance to Hylotrupes bajules attack

This paper presents an assessment of the effectiveness of three straight chain alkyl anhydrides as chemical modifiers in improving the resistance of susceptible softwood to attack by wood-destroying insect larvae of the house longhorn beetle (Hylotrupes bajulus). The data from standard European tests indicate that the overall resistance to insect attack is enhanced through chemical modification. In addition the data demonstrate that acetic, propionic and butyric anhydrides all performed well in these insect tests; acetic anhydride conferring the greatest degree of bioresistance with weight percent gain (WPG).

Es wird ueber Versuche zur Erhoehung der Widerstandsfaehigkeit von anfaelligem Nadelholz gegen den Angriff von holzzerstoerenden Insektenlarven des Hausbockkaefers (Hylotrupes bajulus) berichtet, indem das Holz mit drei linearen Alkylanhydridketten chemisch modifiziert wurde. Die Ergebnisse von Versuchen nach europaeischen Normen zeigen, dass allgemein die Widerstandsfaehigkeit gegen Insektenangriff durch eine chemische Modifizierung des Holzes erhoeht wird. Darueber hinaus zeigten Essigsaeure-, Propionsaeure- und Buttersaeureanhydrid im allgemeinen eine gute Wirksamkeit in den Insektenpruefungen, wobei Essigsaeureanhydrid den groessten biologischen Schutz im Verhaeltnis zum prozentualen Gewichtsanstieg bot.
