2001
Horvat, A. (Bayer Pharma d.o.o., Ljubljana (Slovenia))
Calypso is a new insecticide by Bayer AG following the successful tradition of developing new insecticides. Tiacloprid is a systemic ingredient chemically related to imidacloprid our first compound in the group of the chloronicotinyls. Tiacloprid is an acute contact and stomach poison with a rather broad spectrum of activity particularly against sucking and biting pests. It is effective against whiteflies, aphids, Colorado potatoe beetle and various lepidopterous pest like leafminers. It performs well against apple leaf hopper, apple bloosom weevil, green apple bug, mealy bugs. Calypso is well tolerated by bees and humble bees even when applications recarried out just before, during or after flowering. Its very high efficacy, low application rate, longlasting activity, low toxicity, good toxicological properties regarding environment and a low toxicity to warm-blood animals makes Calypso a first choice product to be used in the integrated production and in the antiresistant strategy program.
