Slovenia still free from fire blight: three years of surveillance on the pest in Slovenia

The absence of Erwinia amylovora was determined by visual observations sampling and laboratory analysis of host plants in quarantine plantations, nurseries, apple and pear orchards and on other observation spots in the whole country in the past years. The public is being warned about the dangers of this quarantine organism through lectures and publications. In spite of all the phytosanitary measures the disease can be expected shortly: plant propagation material is mostly imported from countries where the disease is present and new infection focuses in the neighbouring countries - particularly in Austria and Hungary - are in a dangerous vicinity of our borders.
