Therefore, the aim of a present has been to evaluate the efficiency and milk quality (in 1-4th lactation) and reproduction traits (1997-98) of Saanen breed goats in comparison to White Improved goats. Saanen goats have been imported from France and they have been maintained under the same envirinmental conditions as white improved goats. On a basis of 232 lactation's it has been found that Saanen goats have produced more milk by 127 kg, on average, with higher percentage of protein (0.27), casein (0.22) and dry matter (0.44) in relation to White Improved goats at similar lactation length (267-269 days). The influence of the following lactation on the efficiency and chemical composition of milk has been highly significant, except from lactose and somatic cells number. The highest differences, to Saanen breeds advantage, have been found at the first and fourth lactation. As regarding to reproduction traits, White Improved goats have been characterized by higher fertility and prolificacy, but poorer kid rearing than those of Saanen breed
