Effect of long-term potato cultivation in specific 2-course crop rotations and monoculture on weed infestation and tuber yields

In the 12th, 13th and 24th year of the static field experiment potato yields in 2-course crop rotations were compared to the yields in monoculture, under varying organic and mineral fertilizer rates. Increased proportions of potatoes in the crop rotation increased weed infestation and reduced tuber yields. Among monocultures, application of the full rate of manure and half the rate of mineral fertilizers significantly increased tuber yields (by 17 percent) number and dry matter yield of weeds as, compared to plots that received full organic and mineral rates. Among 2-course crop rotations, application of the full manure rates and mineral fertilizers, or their ploughing under with winter catch-crop increased tuber yields by 19 percent reduced the number of weeds but increased the yields of weed dry matter as, compared to the plots that received only mineral fertilizers
