Recent advances in the molecular characterisation and physiological studies of plant amine oxidases have evidenced a key role for these enzymes in the modulation of cell wall redox status in the context of normal development and as a response to biotic and abiotic stresses. The recent availability of cDNA and tri-dimensional structure for these proteins represent powerful tools in their study at the molecular level. A deeper understanding of how these proteins function in different plant systems will help to improve stress-resistance of crop plants through genetic and/or biotechnological strategies
