English. Feed purchases and subordinated finishing industry are insisting on getting high-graded feed quality to favourable prices. From the broad public, feed quality aspects become increasingly discussed. Faced with feed scandal, authorities are claiming for tracing and marking obligations. All this, where more and more antibiotics are banned from animal feed, due to resistant bacteria. Batch-operated steam conditioner mixing plants represent an efficient, highly productive and reliable process technology without any weakpoints. "Intelligent" heat treatment combines efficiency, quality and high capacity with the option to execute additional process steps (i.e. application of additives and pharmaceuticals). Continously operatingthermal processses are considered to be the best solution for feed meal hygienization. But each chain is only as strong as the weakest link: Problem of the future will be to prevent hygienisated feed up to it's consumption from recontamination.
