The nutritional requirements of camel
1989
Wilson, R.T.
The anatomy and physiology of the dromedary digestive tract present certain particularities with respect to the typical ruminant. The stomach has only 3 compartment, the first one having a very different motility from that of a ruminant. The dromedary seems particularly fit to recycling blood urea through saliva. It is capable to greatly select its food and to feed basically from shrubs and underbrush. It can withstand harsh watering conditions. Assessment of its nutritional requirements remains very empirical and often inferred from cattle requirement.
