Ecosystem management tents historically to simplification and in the long run to monospecific ecosystems. However, in developed areas and as complement to intensive soil utilisation, management of multispecific ecosystems in gaining greater importance since with low investments a maximisation of diversity, representatively, stability (hydrology, geomorphology, atmosphere, etc.) as well as other objectives is achieved. Thus, an attempt can be made to avoid the inconveniences that marginal or set-aside land pose. Certain traditional utilisation systems may serve as inspiration source and biological material for new management methods. These could include monitoring focused on selective critical aspects of the ecosystem. A synthesis of ecological knowledge is necessary in order to implement a less short-sighted and monodimensional management of nature than that currently carried out.
