Effect of magnesium and cadmium on the yield and content of macroelements in yellow lupine

Soil contamination with cadmium depressed significantly the yield of aboveground parts and roots of yellow lupine, number and weight of root nodules and content of potassium in aboveground parts. It was also responsible for the increase in the content of magnesium and calcium in aboveground parts and roots and the content of phosphorus and sodium in aboveground parts of yellow lupine. Magnesium application to soil reduced the negative effect of cadmium on yields, especially in the objects contaminated with the highest Cd rates. Magnesium fertilization increased the content of Mg and to a slighter degree, that of nitrogen. It also acted antagonistically towards the concentration of potassium. Yields of yellow lupine were positively correlated with the content of nitrogen, potassium and partly (only the roots) magnesium. On the other hand, it was negatively correlated with the phosphorus, calcium and sodium concentrations in yellow lupine
