English. Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus, also named bovine herpesvirus type 1, induces latency after cattle infection. This biological feature allows the infection to persist in cattle herds. The viral infection is controlled by vaccination and the culling of seropositive animals in regions of low prevalence. The development of glycoprotein gE negative marker vaccines provides an efficient tool. Seronegative latent carriers (SNLC) were recently obtained in experimental conditions. Their epidemiological importance cannot be demonstrated yet. However, the introduction of SNLC is a major threat for IBR free herds and artificial insemination centres
Show more [+] Less [-]Italian. Il virus della rinotracheite infettiva bovina (IBR), chiamato anche herpesvirus bovino di tipo 1, si istalla allo stato latente nel bovino infetto. Questa particolarita' biologica assicura la permanenza dell'infezione negli allevamenti bovini. Questa infezione virale e' sottoposta a controllo con la vaccinazione e, in condizioni di bassa prevalenza, con l'eliminazione degli animali sieropositivi. Lo sviluppo di vaccini marcati, sieronegativi per la glicoproteina gE, rappresenta uno strumento prezioso. L'esistenza di bovini sieronegativi portatori latenti (SNLC) e' stata di recente confermata sperimentalmente, ma non e' ancora stata dimostrata la sua importanza epidemiologica. Tuttavia, l'introduzione di animali SNLC rappresenta un grave rischio per gli allevamenti e per i centri di inseminazione artificiale indenni da IBR
