The single or combined effects of animal's genotype at kappa-casein and beta-lactoglobulin loci were determined on milk production traits in 102 Polish Black-and-White cows. The effect of animal's age, lactation stage, and milk somatic cell count were assessed and their interactions with the genotype effects estimated. The results presented allow to arrange the contribution of all factors in the following order: stage of lactation lactation number somatic cell count kappa-casein kappa-casein/beta-lactoglobulin beta-lactoglobulin. Thus, it may be concluded that kappa-casein and beta-lactoglobulin genotypes, when used as genetic markers in selection programmes, may moderately, but significantly contribute to the improvement of milk production traits in cattle
