Pathomorphological picture of the liver, pancreas, skeletal muscles, heart and kidneys of pigs fed diets containing faba beans (Vicia faba L.)

It was found that diets for pigs containing 20 percent of faba bean seeds caused, at the first stage of fattening, the following changes in hepatocytes: damage to mitochondria and the endoplasmic recticulum, a decrease in the number of glycogen granules and an increase in the number of lysosomes. At the next stage of fattening certain adaptation processes were observed, i.e. development of the rough endoplasmic recticulum, an increase in the number of ribosomes, nucleus enlargement and a larger amount of glycogen, which had a positive effect on body weight gains
