Effect of sowing depth on plant characteristics and yield of Faba bean green seeds

In the field experiment in the years 1990-93 the influence of sowing depth on morphological characteristics of plants and yielding of green seeds of faba bean was investigated. The sowing date of faba bean seeds Windsor Bialy cv. was in the middle of April and the sowing depths were 4, 8, 12 and 15 cm. The sowing depth was not significant for plants' height, number of branches and number of pods per plant. However, the deeper sowing at 8, 12 and 15 cm affected the increase of weight of 1000 fresh seeds. An increase of sowing depth from 4 to 8 cm influenced the increase of total and marketable yields of green seeds respectively at 6.5 and 8.4
