Results of investigations on heavy metals accumulation in French bean plants are presented. In 1994-95 the experiments were carried out in 10 localities around Krakow agglomeration. The levels of cadmium, copper, zinc, lead, chromium, iron, manganese and nickel in French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) grown on 10 experimental plots were determined using ASA methods. The level of heavy metals in soils, physico-chemical soil properties, and the atmospheric deposition of trace elements were determined in order to estimate the effect of these factors on heavy metals accumulation in plants. It was found that pods of French bean grown around the Krakow agglomeration were polluted with cadmium, lead and zinc to a pronounced degree. The level of heavy metals depended on the location of experimental plots in relation to the sources of pollution. Significant correlation coefficients were proved between the level of heavy metals in pods, atmospheric deposition of these elements and some soil properties
